About Vellum

Why this exists.

The public internet has been scraped. Everything published openly went into the last generation of models years ago, and the companies building the next generation are short of one specific thing: records of how skilled work actually gets done, with the outcome attached.

That material exists in enormous quantity. It sits in the job systems, inboxes and file servers of ordinary businesses that have been operating for a decade or more. Almost none of it has ever been digitised in a form anyone could learn from, and almost none of those businesses know it is worth anything.

Vellum exists to represent those businesses. We find the buyer, negotiate the agreement, handle the preparation, and make sure that what leaves a company is the shape of the work rather than anything that identifies a customer. The business keeps its records, keeps operating exactly as before, and takes a share of what the licence earns.

What we are, and are not

We are a representative, not a marketplace. We do not list your business publicly, we do not let buyers browse, and we do not tell a buyer who you are until you have agreed to be named.

We are also not neutral about the trade being made. Models are going to get better at this kind of work whether or not any particular company takes part, and the training data will come from somewhere. We think a business should be paid when its own work is part of that. If you disagree, that is a reasonable position and we are not going to try to talk you out of it.

The company

Vellum AI is the trading name of BioLifeSciences LLC, a Delaware limited liability company. We work with businesses based in the United States.
